RAAF Centenary of Military Aviation Launched
RAAF NewsMELBOURNE, Friday 6th December 2013: At a press conference at RAAF Williams (Pt. Cook) today, the Parliamentary Secretary of Defence Hon. Darren Chester MP launched the 2014 Centenary of Military Aviation (CMA14) Airshow and confirmed that the event was to take place at RAAF Base Williams (Pt. Cook).

The airshow will be held over 2 days, being Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of March, 2014. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster. Pricing will be as follows:

Adults: $30, Children (5-15): $10, Family (2 Adults and 2 Children): $76

Free Public Transport will be available both days of the event, and the RAAF are strongly recommending people use it to avoid traffic congestion. Trains and Buses will be free for everyone attending the Airshow. Parking will be available at the base, but will be at a cost of $10 per entry.

This will be the only major airshow between now and the biennial Australian International Airshow 2015 at Avalon.

This airshow will be fitting as it is taking place at the birth place of Military Aviation in Australia.

Pt. Cook was originally the home of the Australian Flying Corps, the forerunner of the Royal Australian Air Force. Pt. Cook was home to 2 Bristol Box Kites between 1914 and 1917.

This Centenary of Military Aviation Airshow will commemorate the first flight of our Bristol Boxkites on 1st March, 1914.

The newly build replica of the Bristol Boxkite will be on display for the first time at the CMA14 Airshow. The replica was built at the RAAF Pt. Cook Museum by a team of enthusiasts, lead by Group Capitan Ron Gritton and Wing Commander Geoff Matthews.

In the next 10 years, almost every aircraft in the Airforce, Army and Navy are due for an upgrade, or even be replaced.

More information is available at the RAAF Event Website.
